What was your first superhero character?

Hey Harrigan. It sounds like ASTOUNDING MAN was a hoot to play! I love the idea of his slow flight power and the fact that everyone really knew his secret ID.

Ooh, great thread Saker!

My first (and probably only one of three supers I've played) was made using FACERIP back in the early 90s. Each of us played ourselves in a Supers-High style game, each of us rolling some random powers and trying to stat ourselves in terms of the game (lots of delusions of grandeur during that process!)

My character got Stretching as his lone power, pretty lame, but it led to endless juvenile jokes about things getting bigger and longer. Good times :) Unfortunately our college-aged gm couldn't take the low brow humor and fled after a game or two.

Mine was also my first RPG character ever, sometime back in the late 80s. I played the Hulk in the FASERIP Marvel... who died. And then I made another, and another. The Judge of the game (their name for the GM) was a bit of a killer Judge back in that day, and he executed several characters that session before I made the Phantom Rider to replace my pile of dead Hulks, and talked my way out of the situation.

My friend, whom I brought to RP with me, never played another RPG ever again! :D

My first original hero, I can not honestly recall. I played a lot of knock off heroes for a long time, and Shadowcat (from the X-Men) was my favourite. I played her so well, in fact, that a lot of the GMs wanted me to play her instead of an original character.

My first superhero character was for V&V back in the 1980's (about 82 or 83). He was called 'Ice Warrior' And did ice projection and moved on ice slides and had a shield of ice etc. Obviously, his weakness was heat.

I still have the character somewhere about.

Hi,

My first supers system was the boxed Champions 2nd edition. I ended up being full-time GM so I mostly got to design villains. I think the very first one I designed was a Fu-Manchu inspired 'yellow peril' (not very PC) style pulp villain called Professor Koriyati (yes really).

I also put together a villain team called The Circus of Death who were actually pretty cool (although inspired by a song by The Human League). Hmmm, I'm thinking now that I may have to revive them.

We too spent whole game sessions drawing new characters and colouring in their costumes. Happy days :)

Professor Koriyati and the Circus of Death! Sounds like a cool BASH adventure right there. Seriously though, these guys sound like they'd be great villains. I never even picked up on the similar sound of the professor's name to Sherlock Holmes' nemesis until I said it out loud.

My friend and I did the same thing with a lot of our time. I tink we made tons more characters and planned tons more games than we ever played. [sigh ... oh the nostalgia!]

My first character was for the blue, staple-bound Champions [which I still have on a shelf somewhere. I actually thought about ressurrecting that book it for my current campaign before I found BASH - whew, that was close!].

His name was Mauler - an astronaut in an experimental armoured spacesuit is exposed to cosmic rays that nearly kill him and crashes back down on earth. NASA picks him up hands him over to a shadowy part of the secret service, who rebuild him. But parts of him are fused to the suit, so they fix the suit and try to install control devices to keep him manageable. That doesn't go well, so 'The Agency' becomes a Hunted.

What you end up with is sort of an undead Ironman - I was big into Deathlok the Destroyer comics at the time. He was stuck in the suit because it was the only thing keeping him alive, and of course the suit had to have a clear faceplate with his skull face showing though. He had most of the powered armour suit abilities - strength, armour, flight, energy blasts of various sorts.

Sounds pretty hokey when I look at it here, but we had a load of fun in that game. My favourite villain was one the GM came up with - a guy who could telekinetically heat up the air around you instantaneously, which then spit you about 100 feet into the air. His name, yup, 'The Toaster'.

Good Times.

Cool idea for a hero, Baelor. I love the concept for the Toaster as well: original, quirky and cool at the same time!

Yeah, that was our GM, original and quirky. Heck, none of us were cool, though.

I loved the Toaster for the wierd-factor, but the non-flying heroes really learned to hate that guy. First you take the energy blast, then you fly up 15 hexes, then you take huge damage from the fall. OUCH!

One of the things I like most about BASh, is that you can do the cool character concepts and action in play, and they don't come out ridiculously.

For the same reason it is a lot easier to rein in the Power-monkeys who break the game with their characters. Like I said in my post. Really glad I found BASH before I let 1st Ed. Champions back out of the vault.
