Reading Planetary and Youngblood again

Post by urbwar »

I had read the first 3-4 issues of this fantastic series years ago. A friend loaned me his TPB versions, and I started from scratch. This is just a great series. It's too bad that Wildstorm got folded into DC proper, because this was one of those series that really showed what Wildstorm was all about. Getting close to the end (should finish the series tonight at work), then will likely start the last Youngblood series that came out in 2008-2009.

I actually read all the older issues over the weekend. Yeah, they're caricatures of other established characters, and the early issues have some horrible writing/storylines. Still, something about this characters appealed to me. Gen 13 and WildCATS seemed more popular, but never really appealed to me like Youngblood did.

My friend turned me onto Youngblood:Genesis, which was written by (iirc) the same person who started on Ultimates for Marvel. Much like the first Ultimates series, this is building the team from the ground up, showing how the idea came to the person who put it all together. There was only 2 issues done, but they were 2 great comics. Too bad that company (Arcade Comics) folded, as this was really a hidden gem. I highly recommend these 2 issues. They're even better (imho) than the 2 issues Alan Moore did (though his issues of Supreme were * awesome)

After that, I think I'll start on Stormwatch again....
