The fact is, I am pretty decent at comic up with ideas for characters and personalities, but not so much with tacked-on origin stories.
I don't care for the "mutant menace" concept, but I do like the idea that some power manifestations are just a mystery. One day you are an ordinary person, one day you are lifting trucks. Maybe it was triggered by stress, or maybe the stressful situation was just the first time you noticed it.

Is this just commentary or do you want to play?
A little of both.
I'll be honest, I don't have a lot of experience with Play-by-Posts. How do they operate?
I could play The Harpy, posted elsewhere on this forum. She's a 26 pointer, so I could give her some Hero Points to bring her up to 30.

PBP games are very slow. That's the first thing everyone needs to know.
Usually they involve the Narrator making a setting the scene post. Then the player's respond and such.
If a fight breaks out, it slows down tremendously to be sure.
Still it can be a lot of fun too
As for Harpy, well I would still need 2 other ideas pitched as well. I prefer having a selection so that the player gets something they want and I get something I want as well
Excellent, thanks! Any preferences on that custom version of susceptibility? I'm still a little mixed on it, and would be happy to either tweak the implementation, or to pick another disadvantage entirely. One possibility that jumps out might be Secret (I have one in mind relating to his origin story, or would be happy to use something of yours if there is one that would tie him into your setting).
Basically, the normal version is a -3 dice penalty to one stat during specific situations, while this version would apply the penalty to any stat but only for rolls using his powers if he doesn't have the tech gear in his costume helping to focus it. Using skills, or punching someone (without using Special Attack to enhance it), etc. wouldn't have the penalty because he doesn't need the costume for that stuff. But if he uses any active powers like Special Attack, Mastery, his force fields, etc. then the penalty would apply regardless of what stat the power roll uses. I'm trying to balance a broader selection of what stats are penalized with a narrower selection of what types of actions are penalized, and I'm not convinced how well it works.
I'm tending to think it might be easier to drop that idea, and just pick a different disadvantage. What do you think?
Are you still taking applications? Just received my copy of BASH UE this weekend and am itching to play. I am currently running a PBEM using M&M, but would love to be a player.
As for slots, only Lindharin has submitted 3 characters for consideration, so still at least 3 seats available (I think 4 players is enough at this point).
Great. I should have some writeups done by this weekend at the latest. I just finished reading the campaign background. Nice stuff.
So, is it going to have a dark tone to the campaign? (Such as was present in the Watchmen and The Dark Knight Returns). Curious because you stated that it was going to take place in mid-80's, but there were also less dark titles around that time that were also popular (i.e. The New Teen Titans, X-Men, Alpha Flight, Batman and the Outsiders, etc. )
